Obligated Only to You: This great country is the only one with a Constitution that places the rights of individuals above their government. Let’s return to those first founding principles. If you want a Congressman who serves YOU, according to the highest ethical standards, then join the movement to elect me so I can bring ethics to Congress, just as I have to the businesses I have led.
Historic Values: I have experienced the American Dream — a wonderful family with values rooted in faith, freedom and patriotism. I was taught the importance of character, education and hard work as the building blocks of life. I believe that this foundation led to opportunities and my successes. Now, my focus is on Service — to ensure that my fellow New Mexicans are freed from this bloated and intrusive government and afforded the opportunities to succeed.
Not a Career Politician: I am committed to fundamental change from the path we are on and this change must be completed in 2 to 6 years. I will apply all I’ve learned from my career to real change and not allow Washington to change me into a career politician. I look forward to living under every law I help to pass.
Over 40 Years: Shortly after beginning my career in New Mexico in 1969, I laid my plan to complete my life here. While my career led me to many corners of the world to perform what I believed was my patriotic duty, the past 14 years have permitted me to fulfill my plan and enjoy life in northern New Mexico.
My Career: As a boy growing up in “America’s Hometown” of Hannibal, Missouri, my dreams of making a difference in the world followed a path similar to that of the town’s more famous childhood residents, Mark Twain and the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown. All of us followed our dreams and found ourselves on or in deep water in various capacities:
- Special Operations: For over 25 years, it was my great privilege to work with active duty and former Navy Seals and other Special Forces. I led or participated in many overseas operations under continuous Special Ops contracts spanning two decades. I have held a Top Secret clearance for nearly all of my adult life.
- Hughes Glomar Explorer and the Soviet Submarine K-129: This nuclear weapon-armed Soviet submarine sank in over 17,000 feet of water. The 2010 movie, Project Azorian, detailed the operation and called it “the boldest intelligence coup in history”. The K-129, resting over 3 miles deep in the northern Pacific, was the heaviest object ever lifted on land or sea to this day. Besides serving on the engineering design team, I was the Operator of the Heavy Lift System when we lifted the submarine off the seafloor. I was also on the team that went aboard the recovered wreck and discovered the plutonium-armed torpedoes.
- SALT: As a Booz Allen Hamilton Project Scientist for DIA, I prepared Soviet nuclear threat assessments for the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks. I also managed the Nuclear Weapon Effects Team at BAH.
- The SS Central America (“The Ship of Gold”): I provided the search plan, search team operators and equipment (through my companies, IDSS and Triton) to locate the SS Central America, a steamship carrying up to an estimated $1 billion in gold that sank in 1857. IDSS found the ship 8,000 feet deep in the Atlantic. Life magazine said the discovery “was the greatest treasure ever found”. While most children fantasize about discovering buried treasure, life has taught me that education, hard work and free enterprise are a more reliable path to success. Still, in providing technical products and services to others who choose to be treasure hunters, I must admit it is exciting when we find the motherlode.
- JFK Jr’s Plane and Other Recoveries: Companies I owned provided search personnel or imaging and analysis systems for many successful searches including JFK Jr’s aircraft, TWA 800, Egypt Air 990, Benedict Arnold’s gunboat, Mercury Liberty Bell 7 capsule, and Swiss Air 111.
Associations and Volunteerism: My political views are influenced by my faith, family, friends and personal interests in conservative causes, honoring our heroes and enjoying music, dance and our beautiful New Mexico environment.
